Sec. 27-102l(d)-172. Inspection of motor vehicles, packages and containers

(a) Safety and Security personnel may inspect vehicles entering or exiting the grounds and at any other time for the limited purpose of securing the health, safety, security, and welfare of veterans, visitors, and staff.

(b) Safety and Security personnel may inspect packages and containers.

(c) Safety and Security personnel may take any action necessary to prevent the introduction of items prohibited from state property or the grounds of the Department of Veterans' Affairs, including notification of a law enforcement agency.

(d) Safety and Security personnel shall take action necessary to prevent the removal of state property from the grounds of the Department of Veterans' Affairs, unless said removal is authorized by the Department.

(e) Any person who refuses said inspection or search shall not be subject to such an inspection or search.

(1) The person refusing shall be directed by Safety and Security personnel to leave and said personnel shall immediately escort said person from the grounds of the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

(2) Safety and Security personnel shall advise any person who refuses to comply with a request to leave. If such a request is denied, he may be charged with criminal trespass.

(f) Safety and Security personnel shall notify a law enforcement agency if and when they discover a person or parties involved in any unlawful conduct.
